Here is a great salad that you can make with the veggies that you can find in your garden. It's perfect for house parties and social gatherings. The Zesty Italian dressing is added to tomatoes, cucumbers, and red onions to add the right amount of flavoring. Enjoy!
![]() Garden Vegetable Salad Stacker ![]() 2 large tomatoes, each cut into 6 slices 6 oz. KRAFT Low-Moisture Part-Skim Mozzarella Cheese, cut into 6 slices 1/3 cup KRAFT Zesty Italian Dressing, divided 1 large red onion, cut into 6 slices 1 seedless cucumber, cut into 12 slices 6 fresh basil leaves PLACE 6 tomato slices on platter; top each with 1 cheese slice. Drizzle with half the dressing. TOP each stack with 1 onion slice, 2 cucumber slices and second tomato slice. DRIZZLE with remaining dressing; top with basil. Yes, indeed that looks delicious, not to mention nutritious! For me, I make a salad out of lettuce, cucumber and tomatoes mixed with thousand island dressing. That's also yummy!

Wow Roseflower, that's beautiful and my mouth's watering just thinking how tasty it must be. Up to now we've gone for simple sald with oilive oil and balsamic - but you might just have inspired me

I like to make crostadas with my garden tomatoes, basil, garlic and some buffalo mozzarella. Toasted ciabatta fingers rubbed with garlic and lightly painted with olive oil make great crostinis. A little lemon zest garnish is nice.

I love salads from my garden and grow a pretty large variety of lettuce in the fall that carry over till late spring in my area. I'll just place the seeds directly into the garden in early September and use packs of Burpee seeds. I tend to like the leaf variety of lettuce since you can pick as you need it as opposed to the heading types. Burpee has a Gourmet Blend that incluses Prizeleaf, Royal Oak Leaf, Salad Bowl, Red Salad Bowl and Ashley. I also plant Burpee's Mesclun Spicy Mix that includes Mustard Mizuna, Endive Green Curled, Radicchio Red Treviso and Arugula Rocket. These add just a tough of heat to the salad bowl. I also plant Black-Seeded Simpson, Arugula, Spinach, Swiss Chard and Kale. All of these salad green fit easily in just one of the five 45 foot rows I have for my home garden. I can also have a fall tomato crop that really does well in the New Orleans area climate. We did have a run of 3-4 days this past winter with below freezing temps. that got to the tomato plants but I salvaged the green ones and had enough to put up 12 quarts of pickled green tomatoes, ate fried green tomatoes till I tired of them and gave about 50 baseball sized tomatoes to neighbors and relatives.
As for preperation, if I want something simple I just toss the greens with some tomatoes, cucumbers, a bit of chopped sweet basil, salt, pepper, olive oil and Balsamic vinegar and top it off with a little Parmesan cheese. If I want something more complex in both prep and flavor, I mix a good Italian Salad with most of the above but add black olives, green olives, artichoke hearts, chopped green onions, a bit of red onion, some parsley and instead of Balsamic Vinegar, I'll use a little red wine vinegar. |

I'm afaid we'repretty simple sould when it comes to salads. My wife and I are currently overrun with tomatoes, corgettes and green salad. So we're making the most of all that fresh salad, with lots of basil (the lime is amazing this year). All washed down with some crisp cold white wine.
We even got some grapes again this year - still the wine unfortuatley comes from Tesco. ![]() The weather is getting colder here so it looks like we're going to have lots of green tomatoes for chutney too... ![]() Dave.
